Before this day of activities, I went for an early morning walk through the center of campus.  My meetings started at 10am, and I timed my walk with the rise of the early morning Sun over the tree tops — making for some very nice lighting on the buildings.

I started my Purdue Campus Walk at the Purdue Memorial Union, walked West along State Street, cross through Memorial Mall, crossed by the Armory to University Street, then headed back through the Engineering Mall, then cut through the Chemistry Buildings back to the Union.

Along the way, I saw:  Purdue Memorial Union, St. Thomas Aquinas, University Hall, Spirit Arch, Purdue Bell Tower, Elliott Hall of Music, Memorial Gym, Math Sciences Building, Lawson Computer Science Building, Hovde Hall, Engineering Fountain, Potter Building, and the Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry.

This is a favorite campus walk for me.  Nice familiar place, with lots of good memories.  This morning was very nice morning for a Purdue Campus Walk.

Tips:

If you can, get a room at the Union Club Hotel.  This is the only hotel on campus.  Since the campus doesn’t permit cars, it is very hard to find a parking place.

I had two very lively classes.  I got lots of questions and was very impressed with the students.  Further I was delighted with the ECE department team who hosted me along with two student ambassadors.

Tips for travelers.  The Purdue  EE building is located on Northwestern Ave.  The Purdue Visitor Information Center is across the street.  Park there.  My hosts reserved an “A” parking sticker for me; for past visits, I was able to buy a parking pass for $5.  Next to the EE building is the MSEE building; it has a nice snack shop area; it’s a good place for visitors who are early, to hang-out.  I visited the HKN lounge in the basement of the EE building; it was hopping!  Good to visit but maybe not the place for an out of town visitor.

I was on the campus of Purdue University for a day of meetings. After my meetings I went for a late afternoon walk around the Engineering Mall.

I started at the parking garage across the street from the MSEE building, walked along Northwestern Ave, turned left / West onto Stadium Ave, then left again onto Stadium Mall drive.  This had me walking straight into the center of the Engineering Mall area, through which I headed back to the car.

Along the way, I stopped at the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering.  He has a very popular status sitting out front.  This statue had been featured on many of the recent memorial TV shows celebrating his life after his recent passing.  Many of the decorations and memorial tributes had been removed from the statue and put on nice display in the lobby of the building.  The students and the campus community were clearly moved by the recent events and have warmly showed their respect.

The late afternoon light also made from some nice pictures especailly of the iconic Bell Tower and Fountain.

The campus was alot of fun to visit and I don’t think I could have asked for better weather.
